Please join MacDowell and Chairman Michael Chabon as we award the 60th Annual Edward MacDowell Medal to visual artist Charles Gaines, a leading figure in the conceptual arts movement. The Medal is awarded each year to an artist who has made an outstanding contribution to the arts.

Program

The Medal Day Ceremony on Sunday, August 11 will begin at 12:15pm and includes opening remarks by Michael Chabon; a presentation by Thelma Golden, Director and Chief Curator of The Studio Museum in Harlem; and acceptance of the Medal by Charles Gaines. A picnic lunch and open studios will follow. Guests may bring their own wine or beer.

Medal Day is free and open to the public. Picnic Basket sales through MacDowell are now closed. A small number of baskets will be available at Medal Day on a first come, first served basis.
