Earlier this year, MacDowell was pleased to announce that we will award the 61st Edward MacDowell Medal to Rosanne Cash, a performer and composer whose expansive career has left indelible marks on Americana, country, folk, and rock music. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Medal ceremony for Rosanne and our open studios with a picnic have been postponed until August 8, 2021.

While we regret that we cannot gather this year, we still plan to celebrate the legacy of composition at MacDowell with our Summer of Music campaign, a series of virtual musical events and content featuring our MacDowell Fellows in composition.

One of MacDowell's long-standing traditions is the daily delivery of a picnic basket to the front steps of each artist's studio, and we reflect that gesture each Medal Day by offering the public the opportunity to purchase their own picnic lunch following the ceremony. This year, to honor that custom, anyone who donates $20 or more to this campaign between July 1st and August 23rd of this year will receive an "at-home picnic basket" in the mail with recipes from the MacDowell kitchen, illustrations of flowers that bloom on our grounds in August, and more!

Your support for the Summer of Music ensures that we’ll be able to celebrate another 60 years of MacDowell Medalists like Toni Morrison, Stephen Sondheim, and Aaron Copland. Your generous gift allows us to keep one of New Hampshire’s biggest annual arts events free and open to the public

You may also consider funding a Fellowship/monthly giving. Click here for more information.
